I had my Chicago shower on Sunday in the ‘burbs and it was such a wonderful time.
It was one of the first sunny and half-way warm Sundays in months which made it all the better.
I wore a Kate Spade dress that I am obsessed with…..
and an extra bonus for me is that I’ll be able to wear it a million times and just change the accessories.

I am not the most rational shopper with dresses and don’t always buy things with tons of different options for wearing.
I was so excited to finally wear those red heels for something.
walter jacket // kate spade dress (in stores, similar :: similar) // francesca’s necklace // kate spade bow earrings // zara shoes (similar :: adorable SJP similar pair // monogrammed ray bans
some of my ‘maids!
how cute is my friend kiki’s dress??
the tribal/colorful printed dress
I’m obsessed with it.
the shower was a great warm up for the wedding in terms of
a complete and utter anxiety attack with everyone staring at you…..
a complete and utter anxiety attack with everyone staring at you…..
my upper lip and armpits were sweating the entire time I was opening gifts I swear.
it’s just so awkward. I’m a loud-ass extrovert until you put me in a public situation.
There were so many pictures of me with seriously (insert bad word) messed up facial expressions…..
if it was possible, I looked even more akward than I felt.
yeahhhhh…..
I mean….. Good God.
terrifying.
it was so amazing that my sister came in to surprise me 🙂 best surprise ever.
such a wonderful weekend 🙂
Our latest wedding debacle is the getaway-car.
We just had our second car that we’ve booked cancel.
It has become the biggest pain in the neck ever.
Apparently booking with me is a death wish….. literally.
And apparently all of the owners of antique convertibles are very, very old themselves.
The first car, there was a death in the family and they are scattering ashes the weekend of June 7th. Then we finally found a second car, and last week the owners wife fell and broke her hip so they can’t drive the car to Atlanta anymore.

yikes. I’m afraid to find another car for fear something worse will happen to these poor people!
sooooo we are back to square one with less than two months to go.
I told Kip that at this point, I am hopping on his back and we are just waving goodbye as we run down the driveway of the club to the hotel.

The hotel is seriously right around the corner from our country club so maybeeeeee this is our best bet.
plus it would just be so classy and elegant….they looks so romantic in that gif.
but seriously…. I really don’t want to take the time to find something else to leave in… so I am adding this to the list of possible options because at this point I don’t give a damn 🙂
I purchased one of these adorable address stamps off of etsy.
I wanted something to use for our thank you notes, and we clearly aren’t married yet, but I am tempted I am totally going to to use the stamp for my notes now and just write “soon to be” above it.
Writing “soon to be” still saves me from writing out my entire name and address, right? 🙂

I’ve been ordering gifts for my bridesmaids, and while I can’t share what they are, I’ll share some of the things I’ve found that I decided not to do.
Where I need some gift-giving help:
— groomsmen gifts
— mother of the bride/groom/parents/grandparents gifts
Please comment with any ideas — your honeymoon comments helped so much you have no idea (Layci you especially!)
Your faces at the shower. Absolutely incredible. And is it weird that I actually think you should just get on Kip's back?
I'm getting married May 31st and yea, the shower…so awkward. I definitely had trouble pacing the present opening. Is that just me? Too slow and people are falling asleep, too fast and it feels like a hurricane just hit. Your photos are amazing, totally frame-worthy! For gifts – I did custom cufflinks for the dads and etched wine glasses for the mothers to use at the reception. This girl is amazing and I would highly recommend as gifts or for yourself 🙂 https://www.etsy.com/shop/glassgirljen
thank you so much for sending me to that etsy shop – so many things to look at! hope your final weeks with planning are going well 🙂
Looks like you had a wonderful shower!! Loved your dress and shoes!! For groomsmen gives we did watches and a small bottle of their favorite alcohol. For parents gifts…we decided to do blown up wedding photos but since we wanted to give them something on the wedding day I did custom handkerchiefs from etsy!
Funny timing! I just did this post on MOB gift ideas yesterday – hope this helps! xo http://tulleweddingskirts.com/2014/04/08/mother-of-the-bride-gifts-on-a-budget/
thank you so much~! those clutches are adorable
We used golf carts from the country club as our getaway vehicles- the groomsmen drove them down before the ceremony and then it was a quick, cute drive up to the club.
For the groomsmen we did engraved railroad spike bottle openers, along with their favorite alcohol, and socks. The railroad spike openers are pretty cool/unique. Found them here: https://www.etsy.com/transaction/131099140?ref=fb2_tnx_title
We got all of the parent's personalized handkerchiefs. And we also had respective family photos illustrated and framed – which were a huge hit. Really special gift that I 1000% recommend: https://www.etsy.com/shop/EmmieBean?ref=l2-shopheader-name
I also got the mom's the custom wire hangers to match mine and the bridesmaids gifts.
Hope this helps!
I love those – such a unique idea! Thanks rebecca — etsy has so many amazing things its hard to narrow it all down sometimes!
Love the picks! I absolutely hated the pressure of opening the gifts too! I remember sweating profusely and taking way too much time ripping the wrapping paper; because, I have this horrible complex about ripping apart what people spent so much time making look pretty! Aargh! And yeah, your faces looked awesome–but were nothing compared to mine. I absolutely hate my wedding pics and shower pics (after having a baby I am fifteen pounds less than what I was before because I was so friggin' stressed out about my wedding. So you look beautiful and love the dress, and are too funny as always. I love reading your posts they always leave me with a smile on my face (not creepy ones I promise!) Sidenote: Did you used to work for Homescout Realty and went to Miami University? I swear you may have showed me an apartment, and we had a convo about you knowing my cousin, Tad (Thomas) Nedeau. If not so sorry–crazy brain here! Congratulations!

Haha this is too funny – YES! My first job out of school when I moved here after Miami was doing apartment rentals for like 2 months 🙂 Hilarious! Small world!
Looks like a great shower and YAY warmer temps! Love your dress a LOT.
I've left my fiance in charge of the get-away car… so I honestly have no clue what we're getting! Maybe a bike built for 2?!
For gifts — I'm struggling too. As the commenter Rebecca wrote – I am thinking about doing embroidered handkerchiefs for the parents from Etsy and then something else (maybe a photo book w/the professional photos and/or a nice bracelet my mom can wear on the day of).
Groomsmen – my fiance is tackling 🙂
best of luck to us! 😉
I think the handkerchiefs and a professional book are a great idea…. Maybe I'll find some way to give something small and then say that the larger wedding gift is coming a bit later after the wedding! Hope all of your planning is going great 🙂
i meannn your face in the pictures while you were opening presents…. incredible.
I left my husband in charge of getaway car and due to his lack of resourcefulness and procrastination, we ended up w/a hummer limo. (Maybe that was his plan to begin with??) But whatever. By the time that was booked, getaway car was the least of my worries. As long as we had a ride with some beverages I was a-ok!
No gift opening at showers is the way to go!!! We always ended up getting into them at the end, when only the fun people are there. Then there's no awkwardness or required time marveling the terrible gift they purchased OFF YOUR REGISTRY! (Why do people do that?! That's the point of the registry!)
I really wish I could leave my soon to be husband in charge of more 🙂 He's not the best at finishing off tasks on a list haha.
AND YES about the gift opening! My first shower with my best friend we didn't open any gifts and it was so so so much nicer and everyone had more fun. It's so awkward being like "oh this is beautiful….. oh yeah I picked it out….."
Oh my goodness your shoes are adorable! I love that you share those funny pictures too – we all certainly have those moments! My husband got a knife of some sort at a wedding as his groomsman gift and loved it. Good for guys who hunt or fish…heck what guy doesn't like a knife?!
that's an amazing idea! thanks laura!
That dress is so cute and your faces are amaze! I hope you find a car – that is some craziness!
LOVE your faces…what a fun day. And love your gorgeous dress!
LOVE your outfit in the showers and your expressions are priceless…I can definitely relate! As far as gifts go, I'm a huge fan of those embroidered hankies for mothers of the bride and groom!
