I know Dry Shampoo is not some new concept, yet I’m amazed by how many friends still ask about my filthy (fil-theee) hair looking clean and having more volume than ever the dirtier it gets. So I decided to share the secret in case some of you still don’t know that washing your hair IS BAD (and also so time consuming to dry and blow style it, ugh.) and that training your hair to shampoo only 2-3 times per week is key!
There are few things I dislike more than washing my hair…..
But with workouts – especially spin class, where I sweat uncontrollably – there are a lot of showers going on.
What is NOT going on in shampooing.
I pay a lot of dough for my blonde highlights (shhh don’t tell my husband) and I don’t need to wash that money down the drain day in and day out.
The key: DRY SHAMPOO.
People have a lot of opinions on which dry shampoo works best for their hair, and I have tried A LOT.
Something that NEVER happens in life is that my favorite dry shampoo and the one that works the best is also the LEAST expensive. It’s a total steal.
Batiste.
Buy it on Amazon and also buy the little travel bottles. I try to never shampoo my hair on weekend getaways when I can because usually the water, shampoo, or both make my hair look absolutely horrendous.
I’ve only used the original, but my friend told me the Fresh smells absolutely amazing!
I split my hair into an upper layer and lower layer, and spray at the roots. Then let it sit for a minute and rub it all into your roots with your fingers to blend it all in (if you are wearing black, put a robe on or something when doing this so it doesn’t fall onto your top when you rub the powder in.)
One other thing that is key is that it can take time for your hair to get used to going days without shampooing. I can easily get 3 days between washes, and some weeks….. don’t judge….. I can get 5 days. Frequently. If I’m not doing as many sweaty workouts it is RULL easy to get 5 days. (don’t tell my husband – he thinks not shampooing every day is so gross, and he is an OCD shower clean freak). But start with just adding an extra day and seeing what works best for your hair.
Another great hair product is the Oribe Texturizing Spray. I buy about 1 can per year of this, and it lasts me the entire year or longer. I only need to use this when my hair is CLEAN and has no texture to it and I want to curl it or give it some volume. A little goes a long way. I’ll use this before using my curling wand, and I feel like I still get the benefits the next day when my hair is dirty. But it’s a favorite for so many for a reason.
Some of you have probably been using dry shampoo for a long time, but if you aren’t, what are you waiting for!? Especially with working out – it is a life saver! Shower – sans shampoo – blow dry your roots, spray spray spray, and you’re good to go!
I shared all of this on my instagram story recently, so here is some 5 day dirty hair looking fresh and clean if I do say so myself.
(this is a screen shot of a video so sorry if my face looks a little crazy)
Another thing I have tried out is a “Sleep Bun”.
When my hair is still nice and curled from the day before, I wrap it into a loose bun and secure it with a loose hair tie or alligator clip.
Then take it dow and you can fix most of it with your fingers or run the curling wand through the front pieces to refresh it again.
And again – this works because of the DRY SHAMPOO that is all up in there! It holds everyone so well and keeps your hair looking nice for so long, I swear!
ALSO. One final thing.
For blondes, it does a killer job of hiding your roots when you are due for new highlights.
Bless Dry Shampoo.

I’ve been trying to go to 2 barre or pilates classes per week, and yesterday I went to my first Pure Barre Reform class. I *loved* it! I didn’t even realize I had signed up for a reform class, but apparently yesterday was the “launch” day at the studio by my house.
Pure Barre now has 3 types of classes – the regular class, the Empower class which uses the platform and incorporates cardio and ankle/wrist weights, and the Reform class.
The Reform class has stations set up with resistance bands (upper and lower) and gliders (which they call sliders…. but I love me some gliders). I of course didn’t have my phone to get a picture of the set up – but I googled and this was all I got!
ANYWAYS.
I definitely felt like it was more challenging than regular Pure Barre but in a great way. You are always working more than one muscle group at a time so it felt like getting a more efficient workout in the same amount of time. The flow of the class is the same with warm up, arm, thigh, seat, core, so it’s easy to follow. I haven’t tried the Platform Empower class yet, but definitely recommend this one! I’m going to try to sign up for mostly Reform classes I feel like now!
