I hope you all had a great MLK weekend!
I was up in snowy, chilly (as in….. -5 windchill on Sunday morning chilly) Chicago with my sister for my Chicago baby shower and final flight with the twins INSIDE (slash possible final flight for a looooooong time haha.)
It was a quick, jam packed weekend but we had such a great time.
I’m so happy my sister got to accompany me as my date and enjoy a little weekend together.
(We thought it was hilarious the name of the snowstorm was Harper, the name of my sister’s wild 2.5 year old)
I was feeling under the weather for the first time my entire pregnancy and ugh – it really takes it out of you! Thank goodness for the adrenaline of seeing friends that I hadn’t seen in so long and the excitement for the shower because I don’t think I could have made it through the weekend without it. I lost my voice Friday night and again on Saturday night and was just dead to the world come Sunday. BUT. It was such a special weekend I’m so grateful to my Chicago friends and family for going out of their way for me the babies.
My sister and I went to RL for a late lunch after checking in at The Talbott Hotel in the Gold Coast.
(We loved the Talbott Hotel and got a great great rate through hotels.com. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!)
We got a cozy table in front of the fireplace for lunch, complete with the best Baked Phyllo Cheese appetizer ever, cocktails and mocktails, and of course their delicious cheeseburger for yours truly.
That night we went to Quartinos’s – a must when I visit –
with friends before heading back to nurse my vocal cords and passssssss out.
Saturday we woke up the arrival of snow – LOTS of snow – in Northbrook where the shower was being held. The hosts worked so hard to make it an easy and smooth arrival for everyone and everyone was still able to make it!
They had a Two Peas in the Pod theme for the shower and it could not have been cuter. Even all of the floral arrangements had pea pods in the vase.
I was so excited to wear my Pink Sam Edelman Heels and all you that messaged me how much you love them were right – they are SO comfortable. I had no problem wearing them the entire shower and they were so easy to walk in too (I’m not always so great in stilettos but I never care how wobbly I look walking…… the longer the leg, right?!)
I had such a hard time figuring out what to wear for this baby shower!
I purchased a couple of options and wasn’t sure what to go with. I got a SUPER CUTE Jumpsuit that has a TON of stretch in the waist and a shirred band that you can make shorter or longer that I knew could possibly still work for my Atlanta shower in a few weeks.
I figured it’s a piece I could always have in my closet (as long as my tummy didn’t stretch it out too much and it stretches back!)
I actually own this jumpsuit in a different cut and loved it so much I got it in the other style, too.
The other pieces I ordered were me being my typical self and ordering clothes as though it were summer in Atlanta not January in Chicago……. why do I always do that to myself?!
My other option came from randomly trying on clothes in my moms closet and ended up being the winner!
The Catalina Cloth fabric that J.Mclaughlin dresses have are just amazing – SO much stretch.

I wish I had raided my moms closet sooner because there were a couple really
cute summer dresses that I could have worn in the Caymans! Oh well.
This black and white option seemed classic, went well with my pink pumps, and then I topped it off with a pair of borrowed Tuckernuck earrings (stolen earrings?) the day of. I’m in love with the earrings and will probably order them myself! They are super lightweight and comfy.
The babies and I were so spoiled and felt so loved.
I did several ugly cries during the course of the shower and conveniently blamed them on the hormones, as every pregnant woman does.
It meant so much but especially that everyone went out of their way in a snow storm!
It was a weekend I’ll always remember!
