I swear, I have a First Trimester and Second Trimester post coming at some point….
but you know me…..
taking my sweet time…
BUT something I have been getting SO many questions about and messages about on instagram is Lotions and Oils and Creams for Stretch Marks! So I thought I’d share what I have been using and liked (and spoiler alert: 7 months in I have been lucky enough to not have a single stretch mark, so I like these products! now I’ve jinxed myself I’m sure…..)
When I first started looking for stretch mark creams and belly oils, I didn’t really know where to start other than looking for things that didn’t have chemicals, etc. There isn’t really a way of knowing if something works against stretch marks until it’s too late? And also, a huge part of stretch marks “they say” is genetic – so I think to a certain extent what is going to happen is going to happen.
I just knew that with a belly growing exponentially, and growing 2 babies not just 1, my skin was going to be getting VERY stretched and I wanted to keep it as hydrated as possible.
I know a lot of people wait to use anything until they feel like their belly is actually, but I started right away. My stomach took awhile to actually “grow” but my boobs were OUT OF CONTROL from pretty much the moment I got that positive pregnancy test. (more on my insane overnight boobs when I talk about the first trimester, ha!)
I knew they would get stretch marks too, so I just started slathering right away and started putting the oil on my hips and tummy while I did it.
So, there are a million products out there at a million different budgets and I just knew I wanted to have a couple of things to rotate through that didn’t break the bank. My thought was this :
If I switch it up and rotate a few products, if something doesn’t work, at least that isn’t the only thing I’ve used! So I made sure to use something in the morning and something else at night, or something after work and then something before bed, so that two different products hit my skin twice a day.
You do you, but to me, having at least 2, I went with 3, products assures you are atleast trying different things that may work best for your skin.
And that being said, 7 months in, I haven’t had a single stretch mark. There is still plenty of time and lots of stretching, but I feel happy with these three since they have kept my skin nice and smooth this far! Couldn’t ask for more than that.
Earth Mama Belly Oil and Earth Mama Belly ButterÂ
This was one of the most recommended organic oils and lotions that I came across. I knew oils would be the most hydrating, but I also knew that there would be times oil wouldn’t be the best option so I wanted to have a lotion too.
The lotion was great to put on before work or in the morning because oils can ruin your clothes (warning) and stain fabrics. I use the lotion the least amount because it has more of a scent (and scents are not my favorite thing these days) plus I feel like oil is just inherently more hydrating. BUT I did like the lotion.
This oil is great. It has a pump so it is easier and cleaner to apply than the BioOil below. This was a great option to take with my traveling and is the least greasy of the three oils I use.
Bio OilÂ
I kept seeing this oil everywhere when looking for recommendations, and if my pregnancy brain is correct (it never is, so don’t trust me) the Kardashians have recommended this for use during their pregnancies….. maybe Khloe had just talked about it?
I got this in a large size and also in the little travel size bottle. It is realllll oily. And I like that. But I slather this on when I have my giant robe or my PJ’s on. This does not have a dispenser so you have to tap it onto your skin which gets messy or put it in your hands which also gets messy and greasy. But hey, who cares! Lather it up!
Almond Oil
This was the final addition to Project No Stretch Marks and I really, really love having added in almond oil to the equation. First of all because it has this pump dispenser which makes it SO easy after I hop out of the shower to pump and spread and pump and spread and then throw my giant robe on to let it soak in. I also will rub this in on my arms and legs (knees and elbows) to help fend off the dreaded dry winter skin that has been killing me lately. (You can use this for your hair and everything too, it works for it all!) It’s a great middle ground of oily but absorbs more easily than the bio oil does in my opinion.
The pump is essential. I love the oil but also love that it’s big and has a an easy use pump!
SO. I think there a million options for what you could slather on your bod, but this is what has worked for me!
Let me know if you have any recommendations for what you love, too!
I used Bio Oil and didn’t get any stretch marks! (Although I also heard that it’s a genetic thing so I dunno). I got a big thing from Costco and it lasted me the whole pregnancy – and it’s cheap!
So glad you loved it too! Yes so affordable it’s amazing!! We are joining Costco soon and I am sadly excited about future Costco runs 🙂
