whoops! never posted this monday!
We had such an amazing weekend – but I am *exhausted*.
I am not used to being jam packed from start to finish – or let’s be honest out of the house at all for very long these days – but it was completely worth it.
Friday night my mom and sister watched the twins while we went with friends to the Luke Bryan concert. I can’t even remember the last time we went to a concert and it was so much fun. The people watching at country concerts is incredible. Also incredible is that all beverages are sold in 25 oz cans. Yes please!
This was our first real night OUT the two of us – like not a quick outing and then back home or at least one of us with the babies for bedtime.
Of course when we finally have a fun social obligation something else fun comes up – a Lake Weekend – to make it an INSANE weekend rather than getting some time to recover! (We didn’t get home until around 1 AM because of the Uber situation waiting for a ride after the concert….. still worth it!)
Saturday morning we got up early to get the car packed and get the girls out the door to head to our friends house at Lake Keowee. We fed them at 7, let them play for a bit, and we were in the car by 8:30 on the road.
(I’m tired just thinking about it – but thankfully my mom was still here to help while we packed and got everything situated since I couldn’t pack very much in advance for them)
I’m not going to lie – I had some anxiety leading up to this weekend. Taking the girls on a 2-2.5 hour car ride to a lake house for 2 days sounded very stressful to me. ESPECIALLY after going out the night before and getting home late which we haven’t done since they were born.
I feel like I was doing great with baby anxiety until recently….. maybe it was just on high alert leading up to this jam packed weekend of leaving them and then taking them away but YIKES.
It was like Sunday Scaries on steroids!
When my friend invited us I almost said no without even telling Kip because I knew he would say yes and we would have to go. I share this just because if any of you are anxious about a first trip/long car ride/staying in a new place/etc, what’s the worst that could happen?
A blowout in the car? Well, that was the worst that happened haha. And it happened on the way home and we just pulled over at a truck stop and everyone was all good. Everything else was great!
A key thing that also made this an easy trip – other than my sweet friend who was such a help and had things like an extra pack and play and monitor, etc – my husbands truck. I can easily climb into the backseat in between their car seats to check on them or do paci’s. ALSO this truck has an outlet. So you can make bottles on the go (and pump on the go easily). If you’ve seen my instagram stories you may recall me doing this on 4th of July, pumping in the car while I warmed their bottles. It’s truly a dream. We pulled over to do a bathroom break for us and I was able to feed them in the backseat of the truck. I hated that gigantic car when he bought it…. but now I’m obsessed.
Anyways, the girls loved the lake and were SO good it blew me away. They also slept like angels all through the night – preach! – I think they were tuckered out from the day. But I’m SO glad we went and have such great memories of them as little babies on the boat.
Lake Keowee is probably my favorite lake we have been to – it is gorgeous! There are so many pretty lakes a short drive from Atlanta and it definitely makes us hope one day we can have a lake house of our own to do things like this more often!
K…. enough rambling for now…..
and now…. a bunch of cute pictures of my babies in life jackets.
