Oh hey, my twins are almost 11 months old,
so why not finally share their nursery?!
Per usual, I am ON TOP OF MY GAME. At all times.
Prior to the twins this 3rd bedroom served many uses: a second guest bedroom (twin trundle day bed), treadmill, desk for an office, ten thousand pounds of stuff shoved in the closet. A catchall room that we used for everything. It was my husbands idea to do board and batten and I loved the idea. He is very handy and loves a project, and I love any project that involves me not doing any work 🙂 The woodwork actually happened very quickly it just was the painting of the wood that took forever…. probably because I didn’t help…. I used pregnancy and the fact that I helped paint every room and kitchen cabinet in our place in Chicago as my defense, but really it’s that after painting every space in Chicago I refuse to ever paint again.
Before we knew the gender I knew I wanted to do a neutral grey for the walls. For the walls we went with Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray. It’s such a perfect neutral grey that doesn’t go purple or blue and looks good in all different lights. (I cannot remember what white we used on the board and batten – sorry!)
testing different grays in this photo.
We also ripped out the standard closet shelf and bar and did built in’s (bought a set from Lowe’s) for more storage since their nursery is small and doesn’t allow for even a full length dresser with the two cribs.
I’m naturally drawn to blue and white, so even before we knew gender I had planned on navy in the nursery. (Plus, we both *KNEW* we were having two boys since Kip is one of 4 boys, his dad is one of 4 boys, etc. There was not even a chance we were going to have ONE girl let alone TWO, RIGHT?!…… ha……)
I am obsessed with quatrefoils so the first thing I ever found for the room was this mirror from Target on super sale for $25. I had grand plans of it hanging above the small dresser and changing table. I was adamant about it. Of course, Kip informed me it couldn’t hang safely there. Literally, when I was on bedrest in the hospital I was FaceTiming him while my mom and sister were setting up the nursery for me and I was like TELL HIM THE MIRROR HAS TO GO THERE. I finally came to my senses that it wouldn’t work, but I wouldn’t let it go. So we hung it on the wall, where I cannot even see the top of my head and it reflects nothing except the ceiling light, but whatever. I wanted it!
I also knew I wanted a quatrefoil light so those were the two easiest things to purchase.
When we found out it was two GIRLS, I still knew I didn’t want lots of pink. I had thought maybe a pink somewhere in a rug, but we found this rug at Homegoods and every rug I liked was blue.
My sister said we could have her glider and ottoman from my nephew’s room and I thought about recovering it but realized I actually prefer the navy and white (plus – it’s free! and cute!).
There’s only pink in their nursery in the crib sheets and a beautiful blanket from a friend hanging on the chair.
The only arrangement that worked for the cribs was them in an L shape but it actually works out perfectly because they love to be directly next to each other. When I put them in their cribs for naps they stand and talk for a few minutes and when they wake up they play with each other between their cribs (and steal each others paci’s).
There are tons of options for monograms of all sizes on Etsy.
I ordered these in natural wood and Kip spray painted them white.
(I have a second set of white monogrammed sheets on their cribs in some of these pictures)
These photos were taken before the girls came home, so things are obviously way more messy now and a little bit different. Last week they started to crawl into this room and we play in here a little bit, but we are mostly in the living room. (We live in a ranch which has been a GODSEND for everything baby, especially with twins. We keep the changing pad in the living room in the built in’s under the TV because I need to keep my eyes on the other one while doing diaper changes.)
These shelves were another favorite find – I couldn’t find something the right size that was a quatrefoil design, but I liked this pattern and they fit perfectly in the small space between the closet and bedroom door.
The only storage space in here other than the closet is this small dresser from Pottery Barn.
(the changing table lives in the living room 99.9% of the time and is only moved when friends are over…. slash usually just stays sitting in the living room – who cares.)

Overall we love this room so much and I love seeing how beautiful it is thanks to all of the hard work my husband put into it. It is tiny but perfect, and hopefully they’ll love to play in here more as they get a little older!
If anyone has small space ideas for storage, etc. when they are older and have *WAY MORE STUFF* and want to be in here more often, let me know!
