I’m an expert of nothing… except being a lazy ass in bed binge watching television every chance I can possibly get. {what does it say about me that my ideal lifestyle is causing mass pandemonium for others?! RHETORICAL question, don’t answer that!}
Today I’m sharing the NUMBER ONE SHOW you all need to be watching to fill your souls with happiness and love and sleep like a baby. (As well as sharing all the trash you need to watch to keep yourself entertained).
So slap on a face mask (the FUN KIND) throw on your heated neck massager, pour yourself a glass of Costco Prosecco, raid the snack drawer, and settle in for some good old fashioned binge watching.
(I also highly suggest these Lazy Readers that allow you to lay flat and watch TV, but again, I’m a professional.)
If you want to talk about TV, I’m your girl.
So I wanted to share some favorites – and ONE in particular – to help the rest of you who are in need of an outlet.
The MOST important show on this list that you NEED TO BE WATCHING
is The Great British Baking Show on Netflix.
It is the show that offers everything you need. It is exciting and enthralling to watch, beautiful, suspenseful, filled with wonderful people who love and support each other, inspiring, wholesome, happy reality TV with no fighting, you name it. Oh and it has Paul Hollywood’s dreamy blue eyes, too.
You truly fall in love with the people – from the judges to the contestants.
It is wonderfully British and everything perfect and happy in the world.
It makes you laugh AND cry.
It’s like a big hug. Your first sip of coffee in the morning. A warm sunny day after a million days of bleak winter.
Ok, ok, I’ll stop now…….
BUT THE INTRO ALONE IS LIKE A SOOTHING LULLABY.
REALLY…. JUST WATCH AND LISTEN……
ok sorry, sorry I’ll stop……
but if you aren’t calm and happy from those 20 seconds alone, something is wrong with you.
But the BEST quality of this show is that you can be GLUED to it and binge it
OR you can put it on as background noise and fall blissfully asleep instantly.
I do NOT fall asleep easily. Never have, never will. Even when I was exhausted last year from feeding twins every 2-3 hours followed by pumping, I couldn’t always fall right back asleep. That is when I turned to this show – that I already loved and had already seen every. single. episode of obviously – and I would put it on my laptop next to me in bed. Within in minutes I would be asleep. It is SO soothing. It’s that warm hug you never knew you needed.
TRULY. WATCH THIS SHOW.
I don’t know why the first 2 seasons aren’t on Netflix, but there are 7 on there to binge AND the holiday episodes.
TRUST ME. Don’t even bother reading the rest of this, but watch this.
Okay, other shows to dig into.
Shows I’ve loved and highly recommend :
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel : I started this when I was on bedrest and even my husband got into it. Season 2 is everything. It is amazing.
Selling Sunset : On Netflix, this is like Million Dollar Listing but with a million gorgeous girls in LA (one of whom is married to the This Is US actor – now divorced.) If you like Million Dollar Listing, you’ll love this.
90 Day Fiancé : I am very late to jump on this bandwagon, but there are a million seasons. It is wonderful and I know why everyone raves about it.
Love is Blind : I am jealous if you haven’t watched this yet. I wish I could experience it all over again. An easy quick binge that you can’t look away from. (on Netflix)
Dead to Me : I LOVED this show on Netflix. Only 1 season (not sure if there is a second?! I hope!?) and was obsessed with it.
Working Moms : This show can be very R rated with lots of oh-my-god-are-they-doing-this moments, but it is hilarious. Not for those easily offended.
Billy on The Street : a favorite of mine for years. I crack up hysterically. Perfect when you just need a quick, short laugh OR you can binge.
Schitt’s Creek : There’s a reason everyone raves about it. It’s hilarious.
Cheer : You fall so in love with these people. Again, my husband will not watch any Bravo with me, but he walked in the room when Jerry was on the TV and then I was miraculously allowed to play it before we went to sleep. Love me some Jerry.
Next In Fashion : This is like Project Runway, except very different – more teams, the designers are way more famous to begin with, etc. I wasn’t so sure at the beginning, and I don’t LOVE it the way I do Project Runway, but I do enjoy it.
You : I couldn’t stop watching the first season. It is SO CREEPY but so, so good. I am NOT normally a creepy TV person, but this I could handle. The second season kind of lost me so I’m only about 3 episodes in but will likely go back to finish it soon.
Netflix Comedy Specials : There are a million amazing comedy specials on Netflix – perfect for right now to lighten the mood! I love Sebastian Maniscalco’s stand up specials, Ali Wong, Seth Myers, and I recently watched Fortune Feimster’s and loved hers too. If you follow @netflixisajoke on instagram they post little clips from different specials so that is how I usually find what I want to watch next. Next on my list is Taylor Tomlinson’s special.
Tidying Up with Marie Kondo : if you are wanting to use this time to purge and organize, you’ll love this show.
Monster In Law : The only movie listed, because I just saw Netflix has it and MY GOD am I obsessed with this movie. Truly. Obsessed with all J.Lo movies, but especially this one.
….. ok wait…. just saw First Wives Club is on Netflix too…. CLASSIC…. I’m going to need to do a whole separate old movies post……
Chef’s Table : love it. If you like the food shows, you’ll love this. Start with the Milk Bar episode.
The Assassination of Gianni Versace : Creepy, Dark, but so good.
Big Little Lies – loved this book so much and loved the first season of the show. I don’t have HBO but get “access” through friends, so I need to see season two.
Billions – again, got access to Showtime through a friend, but really really liked Billions.
Homeland – I dropped out around season 5 but OMG the first season I could not look away. (my husband drops out of our “mutual” shows so I end up not finishing things… I promise I’m not normally a quitter of anything TV related.)
Parenthood : One of the first shows I ever binged. Oh my goodness. It is so so good.
Scandal/How to Get Away With Murder
Bravo :
Top Chef – All Start premieres TONIGHT!
Project Runway
RH of EVERYTHING. duh.
Below Deck + Below Deck Med
Summer House
Vanderpump Rules
LITERALLY EVERYTHING.
Oldies but Goodies :
Friends
The Office
Will & Grace
Seinfeld
Shows/Specials/Movies I have not watched, that people RAVE about that I would love to dive in :
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Love Island
Younger
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before
The Morning Show
Salt Fat Acid Heat
Narcos
The Crown ( I have seen season 1 and loved it)
Friday Night lights (really can’t believe I haven’t watched this one!)
Friends From College
Marriage Story
Little Fires Everywhere – I read this book and it JUST came out (today?!) as a show with Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. I didn’t love the book the way others did but I think the show is going to be fabulous. Kind of makes me wish I hadn’t read the book so that I could watch the show.
NOW, TELL ME.
WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO BE WATCHING?!?!?!?
We are television kindred spirits. Thanks for your work on the blog and Instagram – I enjoy both so much!
BLL SEASON TWO WAS SO GOOD. Watch immediately.
Also. Don’t we think Friends should be returned to Netflix, given the current world situation? I mean. I need it in my life.
I had my gallbladder removed March 6th. I discovered the Great British Baking Show during my recovery and it’s the only thing I’ve watched since then!
Wishing you a speedy recovery with lots of Great British Baking sweet dreams!! It’s truly the best!
