this weekend we went up to Lake Geneva to ski and have a little getaway.

I was terrified of the skiing aspect, since I had only been skiing twice in my life {when I was 16 and 17} and am clearly no ski bunny.

but I shocked myself with my ability to get down the hills without falling.

I’m not great, and these weren’t any giant Colorado mountains, but I can do it. Who knew?

they have TV’s in the bathroom mirrors.

be still my beating heart.

I need this in my life ASAP.

we stayed at the Grand Geneva and it was so gorgeous.

{it was the home of the original Playboy Club!}

we had an amazing and relaxing trip!

now I am sore as hell all over, but can’t wait to go back again next year.

holidays and monograms

as you read this, I am en route to work in the coldest weather Chicago has seen in decades.

-52 with the wind chill.

there are no words.
I’m too scared to take the time starting my car so I’ll be walking it and taking the train – so about 20 minutes outdoors.

hopefully I make it there alive….

It’s back to reality after the holidays, new years, and a lengthy time off work.

we went to a Blackhawks game with the best seats I’ve ever sat in

celebrated Christmas with Kip’s family

went on an incredible trip just the two of us to Cancun

I’ll post more pictures of the trip later this week!

anything to remind me of warm weather is necessary right now

and most important, I finally, finally, finally got to meet my sister’s baby boy.

He was born a month early, right after I flew back to Chicago after Thanksgiving, and I was unable to get back home until after Christmas.

Anyone that knows me knows I am not really a baby/child person. I’ve never really been around babies at all, especially newborns, but I completely understand the obsession now.

He is the sweetest little thing I have ever seen and I just wanted to munch on him all day long.

he is so tiny, but has the longest legs – he sleeps like a pretzel with his legs up by his face at all times.

For some Holiday Monograms:

not technically a monogram, but the gold christmas bow earrings and my monogram necklace are my staples during the holidays.

this monogrammed scarf has been on heavy rotation.

it’s from the mens section, but whatever.

this monogram-esque hat from J. Crew that I’ve had my eye on for awhile arrived.

I got it during the black friday sales and loved it for so long, but now I can’t tell what I think?

is it cute? thoughts? can’t decide if I should return it or not.

my friend got me this amazing clutch with my future monogram on it.

I am obsessed – and maaayyyyy be using it prior to getting married.

and the gift that has been used every day since christmas, this monogrammed robe.

it is the comfiest thing in the entire world and has made our freezing apartment much more bearable.

I’ll have more exciting things later this week when I’m back into the swing of things.

and have de-frosted…..

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Mine ended with a bit of a mishap and my car breaking down in the freezing Chicago weather

uuggrrrhhhhh.
but, luckily, there was lots of Christmas merriment and time with friends in between.

I finally decorated our tree; it had been just lights for the last two weeks.
Plus, decorating was done while watching Love Actually,

I found this gadget and thought it would be perfect for Kip’s dad and brothers,

a keychain with like 90 tool options
buuuuttt then I was informed that they already have it.
Seriously? Grrr. Back to square one.

I went home to Atlanta this weekend for my sister’s baby shower.

The shower was beautiful and she looked gorgeous! It was so nice to be home and be able to be there for one of her special days since I can’t be there for her next showers in December.

Her nursery is coming together and he is already being spoiled rotten!

I had a hair and make-up trial on Sunday before my flight out and had to go straight to the airport afterwards. As if I wasn’t embarrassed enough feeling like someone straight out of Toddlers and Tiaras for having a hairdo at the airport, I walked through the metal detector at the airport and the jig was up.

I had to have a full body pat down by a lovely little TSA lady.

What does Dolly Parton do when she is at the airport?

monogram monday

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

One of my best friends got engaged on Friday!

I couldn’t be happier for the two of them!

(Plus… both of their initials are JG, which obviously I love, and they will have the prettiest jGj monogram ever. these are clearly important things when selecting a mate.)

Four of my closest friends will all be getting married along with me next year, and it makes the upcoming year 10x more exciting and more fun with all of the great things going on in their lives.

Speaking of engagements,

I finished The Engagements and I really loved it.

It’s not a wedding/engagement book. It’s more about relationships and tells the story of several different couples/families/people throughout different decades and I thought it was a really good read.

I now am reading What Alice Forgot (also ordered The Husband’s Secret) and it is really great.

I can’t wait to keep reading it every night before bed.
